• Tomorrow at 9:30 am, the Standing Committee of the Whole will receive an update on St. Albert's work to negotiate binding service-sharing agreements with its two neighbours, the City of Edmonton and Sturgeon County. Final drafts with Edmonton are targeted for early 2027, with Council approval aimed at June 2027, while the Sturgeon County work, funded by a $200,000 Provincial grant held by the County, is targeted for completion by the third quarter of 2027. Administration says it does not currently plan to hold open houses for either document, expecting limited public engagement because the plans will align with existing City policies. A separate development plan covers land use within one to two kilometres of the shared boundary and, unlike the framework, must go through a public hearing before adoption.
  
  
• St. Albert intends to ask the Province at the fall Alberta Municipalities Convention to extend regulatory oversight to door-to-door solar panel sales, the one home-energy product still exempt from Alberta's 2017 ban on door-to-door energy sales, which already covers furnaces, air conditioning, and windows. Council argues the exemption has created both an uneven playing field for other contractors and a potentially predatory situation for consumers, who can be pushed to sign costly contracts on the spot. One solar broker says that door-to-door prices run anywhere from 1.5 to 5 times higher than comparison-shopped quotes. Councillor Sandy Clark said she was pleased the towns of Jasper, Westlock, and Rocky Mountain House have passed motions to second the resolution. Alberta Red Tape Reduction Minister Dale Nally said the Province is currently reviewing rules around prepaid contracting and direct selling, including solar sales, and urged residents to be cautious of high-pressure tactics. Solar Alberta, an industry group, wants the Province to consider regulations such as a 24-hour cooling-off period, while cautioning against banning legitimate door-to-door promotion entirely.
  
  
• Several St. Albert residents were recognized on Wednesday at St. Albert Place for the 2026 Seniors and Elders Service Awards, which honour residents 55 and older, or those who serve seniors, for significant community contributions over the past 5 years. Mayor Scott Olivieri told the roughly 60 attendees that the recipients are volunteers, leaders, and community builders who connect the city's past to its future. Council selects winners based on recommendations from the City's Seniors Advisory Committee. Honourees included volunteers behind the St. Albert Grief Walks program and Doug Campbell of the St. Albert Community Foundation, which distributed about $300,000 in grants and scholarships last year. First presented in 2025, the awards are now in their second year
  
  
• The St. Albert Farmers' Market opened its 44th season on Saturday, billed as the largest outdoor market in Western Canada with more than 275 vendors across 300 booths. Market manager Jane Ilott said shoppers remain committed to local sourcing even as 2026's jump in gas prices has some customers weighing whether to pay slightly higher market prices. About 90% of vendors return year to year, with new additions this season including a Spruce Grove gourmet mushroom company, an Edmonton allergy-friendly chocolate baker, and a Calgary barbecue sauce maker. The market runs every Saturday from June 6th to October 3rd, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, with a free Park-N-Ride available at St. Albert Centre.
